to my studies in the M.A. Hispanic Studies program at Concordia, I earned
my B.A. with a double major in Spanish (expression and culture) and French
Studies: Translation, also from Concordia, after having previously completed
an associate’s degree in Bergen Community College in the US, where I’m
originally from. I am currently one of the members of the Committee on
the Status of Graduate Students in the Profession of the Modern Language
Association (MLA).
_ My academic interests consist of Latin American cultural expression (especially regarding, but not limited to Arab diasporas and indigenous peoples in the Southern Cone), cultural studies, discourse analysis, literature, critical ethnic studies, critical theory regarding anti-colonial, anti-imperial and social justice, institutional ethnography translation studies, popular music studies and pedagogy. _ My thesis examines the hegemonic discourses and alternate currents within the Palestinian collectively in Chile, relative to elite Chilean national discourse and oppositional political action and expression. I’m also working as a research assistant with Professor Hugh Hazelton on a joint project with the other professors from the University of Ottawa (Luise Von Flotow and Marc Charron) on the translation and dissemination of Canadian literature in Latin America. _ In addition to my work as a student, I have also taught beginner’s Spanish (SPAN-201) over the past few semesters. |
